Ana Sanders

It all began with a simple idea fuelled by a deep passion.

As an independent local session musician, I pride myself on personal attention and dedication to every detail.

My approach is rooted in quality and integrity, ensuring that everything I do reflects my commitment to excellence.

Beginning of my passion

Music has forever encaptured me. From a young age, i was introduced to a diverse plethora of unique sounds, from the likes of Hawkwind, King Crimson, Frank Zappa, the list could go on and has been constantly expanding ever since the first time i heard the song "Silver Machine". Since then, Ive been in a constant pursuit for knowledge in regards to music. At first it was the clarinet, as my mum played throughout her youth, it was inevitable id have musical encouragement, which then led to my introduction to the piano for standard musical theory knowledge. Eventually i began to pursue the guitar as it was what was the most appealing to me at the time, with learning and development on piano and clarinet paused for the time being but later picked up down the line. I continued with guitar from then onwards, later expanding on it from the beginning of high school, briefly touching on whatever instruments were around, and that's where i found my love for the drums. Throughout high school, I pursued the guitar and drum kit and continue to till this day, gradually picking up more and more equipment and instruments for production such as the violin, modular synth, bass etc. The generation of sound has me in a chokehold and to be able to truly hone in on my craft and share this further with the future learners of music is my goal. The beauty of music, I find, is the cultural origins and diversity, which is ever so expanding and will only continue to do so, so to pass this knowledge on, educating, promoting, influencing and developing is key.

Education

At the start of my final year of secondary education, I was given the opportunity to achieve an extra higher-level qualification labelled leadership. This would entail selecting a role in which the qualification could be achieved by, with options such as creating a charity event and classroom assistance in the subject you excel the most in. With working within my craft and industry in mind for the future, this was a total no brainer decision on my behalf, and in a heartbeat, I decided that assisting in a classroom would be my first opportunity to be in an educational environment where I wasn’t the student. Throughout the course of a school year, I spent my free periods throughout the week in the music department, helping in first to third year classes. Doing so entailed guiding and grading practical progress throughout the blocks of different instruments such as keyboard, drums and ukulele in the classroom and in practice rooms, rotating groups every so often in case anyone needs any help or assistance with their practical development.

Leaving high school, i had applied for UoG to continue my music studies above advanced higher, with numerous colleges too, opening my learning development. Ultimately the college route was fit me at the time, as i felt its just in-between school and university and would allow a smoother transition further on. Completing the NC to further take on the 2 year HND has allowed me to get up to scratch and develop my knowledge further on topics such as theory, history, live performance, intellectual property, visual arts, online promotion as well as session skills which all play and have played detrimental rolls in my progression within education and working within the industry.

Throughout HN2, we had a session class in which we would be dispersed into several groups/bands, in which we had to complete a specific task within a limited amount of time to perform at the end. the themes used for this focused in on advertisement jingles, with further analysis on what actually makes a jingle effective and how to convey message through sound. Another task was learning a song of our choice, however it had to include the word "autumn" in the name, further limiting ideas, noneless we successfully accomplished a rendition of "Autumn Leaves" by Chet Baker.

Experience

My main DAW is Ableton which I’ve integrated with Max MSP for live and have recorded, mixed, mastered and released using.

Recently ive also been learning the programming software SuperCollider, which is used for both audio and visual production, however generated through code, similar to the likes of C++ or python.

My musical journey and passion

Music has always been a profound passion of mine, with its flame ignited from a very young age. It started with a general curiosity about sound – how it interacts with us, its surroundings, and how we can tweak and change it to achieve desired results.

This lifelong fascination laid the groundwork for my journey, ultimately leading me to become a dedicated session musician.

Specialisations and unique sound

I specialise in session musician drumming, having honed my craft over many years and achieved a plethora of qualifications.

Beyond the drums, I also specialise in the synthesis of sound, working with analogue, digital, and modular synthesizers both within and outside of Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs). This unique combination allows me to bring a diverse and innovative sound to any project.
