Larkcaldy Trio - Function Work

Rendition of Midnight Blue by Kenny Burrell, by Larkcaldy Trio

Larkcauldy Trio was a Jazz project combining:

-Ana Sanders on Guitar

-Rocco Okane on Bass

-Lewis Berry on the Drum Kit

Which was created as a passion project deriving from jams and ideas, all being open to the idea of pursuing marketing the group to perform as a function band.

Sourceerror - Dowsing

This collective of analog ambient works took direct inspiration and influence from many different aspects of stygofauna and the many other things that thrive in underground cave systems. With heavy use of simultaneous synth work, captured all together alone in my room, layered amongst synthesised sounds specifically resonating with myself and how i felt translating the inspiration and themes.

Acetylcholine -

Acetylcholine is a primary neurotransmitter which specifically activates muscles and movements at the neuromuscular junction and also plays a key role in brain function such as learning, memory, arousal and information processing.

This first track takes you below, as the lead brings you down with the drums taking you forwards, around echo's drip like synth layers.

In the distance, there's bell like tones i took inspiration heavily from tuned geodes, such as use of amethyst for acoustic, similar to the crystallophone.

Further in, a lead shifts up and down, creating an uneasy unspecified build up, allowing the ending to come in, sparkling and tickling the back of your ears, taking further influence from crystals. This whole idea and connection stemmed from the synthesis of tones that i found stimulated my brain particularly such as sine waves, smooth rounded waveforms, delay, glistening leads and the boundary between minimalism and overstimulation.

Mineralistic -

The second track opens with use of electronic foliage recorded with use of my electromagnetic pickup coil, then further chopped up to create the feeling of a device pulsing in search for something.

Following this comes in a sample chop up from Gil Scott Heron, bitcrushed, filtered, delayed and pitched to create a trickle of more crystally water like tones surrounding your head as the warm keys and hard hitting drums, i imagined this feeling to be the climax of the breif search at the beginning, being the uncovering of a giant geode or water source, following the theme of dowsing.

Speleothem -

This track was engineered to simulate an ambient alien like cave environment underground.

Speleothems are mineral formations commonly known as stalagmites, which occur most commonly from calcium carbonate precipitated from ground water.

I used the rough lead synth to simulate cave drips, however pitching them to be in tune with the rest of the track, ambiently echoing, allowing it to take you on a journey whilst being grounded.

Subsurface -

Originally titled “Edible fungus”, this track was the predecessor to the final track, Onwards (Smokeable moss).

I envisioned this track to be the journey towards the exit, being stuck underneath the earth amongst unfamiliar alien like fauna.

The combination of the delayed detuned chords echoing amongst the theremin tearing on, with synthesised tones creating a feeling of water trickling down the walls around you, bouncing and responding with the stones.

The chaotic blend of synths creates an out of space feeling i feel is appropriate as there's as much unknown below us than there is above us

Onwards -

The final track of the EP, originally named "Smokeable moss", brings you out of the darkness and straight into the rain, sampled from my bedroom window.

When originally composed, i had a solid vision that this would be the end, so i had to create a mellow but dramatic experience and in my head, i had originally envisioned finally exiting the cave and being greeted by some form of old timey wizard, smoking a long pipe of glowing moss, in such a calm manor, viewing out towards the low resolution polygon built landscape, like a completion scene of an old video game.

Grade 8 Drum Theory

Bowling in Boston by Ana Sanders

"Bowling in Boston" was a comical evil-esque piano score i had written back in 2025. An incredibly simple moderately paced 4/4 with leading voice and a simple downwards walking bass line takes you on a short journey home, feeling like walking through dark concrete jungle in the rain, with neon sign glow splitting the puddles which inhabit the majority of the road.
