Words of assurance

Below is an insight to my mindset and approach when it comes to session work to help better our understanding before any future work.

Reliability

Being able to meet deadlines and work towards achieving the clients vision within a set period of time is incredibly important as the entire music industry is built on meeting deadlines and is in great importance to do so, so having and being able to develop this skill to do so benefits the both you and the client/s greatly as it ensures reliability, currently and in any possible future endeavours.

Motivation

Motivation is a key factor in taking up the role of a session musician as having an uneasy atmosphere will cause the clients attention, enjoyment, focus and work ethic to decline and therefore put them off wanting to hire you to achieve further goals they had in mind.

Enviroment

Providing an environment where negativity doesn’t thrive ultimately benefits everyone as its proven enjoyment benefits attention to tasks at hand. Positive feedback is a great example for this as providing truthful feedback in a reconstructive and positive way will ensure your input isn’t coming across as dictating.

Understanding

Patience and understanding are key as it is heavily required in learning as reinforming allows development to thrive. It ensures the environment is professional and comfortable, for both parties. I’ve worked in many different groups and ensembles from a young age, with musicians of every level and with that I’ve learned that evaluation and understanding of situations is key with moving forward and progressing, as not doing so only brings people down.

Passion

Passion within craft and regarding development plays a key role as it ensures a constant upwards path, through reinforcement and learning. I find great enjoyment in being able to share things I’ve learned over my years of playing with others, as it took me time to find a lot of things out and being able to share some of that knowledge to those of a beginner’s level could impact and benefit them significantly.

Diversity

Over the years I have worked with a lot of people, from those who’ve never gigged, people who gig all the time, from bedroom musicians to people who earn a living from their craft, all being from different backgrounds in life. No matter what gets thrown my way, i can assure all will be handled professionally, with care, giving you the results you want.

Contract

Before we get started working together, a contract is mandatory to be signed in order to ensure both parties are of level understanding, below you will find an example of said contract to understand its conditions before we get started.

Session Musician Agreement

1. Engagement
Client engages Musician to perform and record [instrument/vocals] for the track(s) titled [Track Name(s)] (“Sessions”). Sessions to take place at [Studio Name/Location] on [Date(s)].

2. Fee & Payment
Musician shall be paid a flat fee of £[Amount] (“Session Fee”), payable within [14] days of completion of Sessions. No royalties, back-end, or ongoing compensation are owed unless explicitly stated otherwise in writing.

3. Delivery
Musician will deliver raw, edited, and mixed stems of their performances in [WAV/other format] to Client within [2] days after Sessions.

4. Ownership & Usage
All performances, recordings, and copyright therein are “work made for hire” to the fullest extent permitted by law. Client exclusively owns all rights worldwide, in perpetuity, for any purpose (including sync, sampling, remixes, and advertising). Where “work for hire” does not apply, Musician hereby irrevocably assigns all rights to Client.

5. Credit
Client shall use reasonable efforts to credit Musician on any commercial release (e.g., “Musician Name – [Instrument]”), but failure to do so is not a breach.

6. No further compensation
Musician waives any claim to mechanical, performance, or neighboring rights royalties, and waives moral rights to the extent permitted by law.

7. Independent Contractor
Musician is an independent contractor, not an employee, and is responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and equipment.

8. Governing Law
This agreement is governed by the laws of [State/Country].
